The first Saxon church in Westham is almost certainly the original 11th‑century church now known as St Mary's Church, Westham. Although the present building is described as Norman, the earliest surviving fabric dates from the late 11th century, which places it right at the transition from Saxon to Norman rule. This makes it the earliest known church structure in Westham and one of the first built after the Norman Conquest.
